Spring is in the Air...At Last and Costume Jewelry is at Its Best

Sold

Sold

Spring is in the air at last. It's almost time to throw open the windows and hang out the quilts. Soon we will be packing up the heavy blankets and putting away our boots. We will don lighter ware and we will let the sun shine on our painted toes. Our cheeks will be kissed by the sun and our skin will brown under the heavenly rays of the sun.

Spring and summer is a great time for stacking bangles and layering necklaces. No bulky sweaters to impede the movement of bangles. I love the sound that layered bracelets make when they touch each other. The trend this spring is color, color and more color...so don't be afraid to put different colors together and make a statement.

Layering necklaces is huge this year. Wear one inside the collar of your white men's shirt and then add more in different lengths under the collar. Retro graduated chokers are super sexy and demand to be worn with a little tank dress. This little number that I am listing here is gorgeous and could be a really versatile piece for you.

Pins are making a big comeback! Big pins that is.. The more flair the better we like them. Pins can be used on shawls or on your favorite bag. A big flowery pin would look great on a straw hat to the beach.

Spring is in the air...time to dress a little flirty and have alot of fun. Why buy new when vintage will do just fine. My New Favorite Etsy Shop

I have a new favorite Etsy shop and want to let everyone know about it so you can check it out too! Susie opened BassWoodStitchery in December of 2009 and sells handmade and eco-friendly stitched clothing, housewares and quilts from the north woods of Minnesota.

Knitting has been a part of her life since she was 5 years old and sewing followed soon behind. She received her degree in tailoring in 1979. Along the way she has put her sewing passion into quilt making and now designs most of her knit and crochet patterns. Everything at BassWoodStitchery is designed and handmade by Susie. I have purchased quite a few items from her and I have to tell you that each item is professionally done with great attention to detail.

Please take a few moments and visit http://BassWoodStitchery.etsy.com/ for handmade beautiful items.

Vintage Summer Bangles

Bangles are a wonderful way to dress up a pair of jeans, a skirt and t-shirt with a jacket or a pair of bermuda shorts with a pair of high heels. I've become a collector of bangles, especially vintage bangles. The quality and colors just can't be matched...

Check out the bangles I have for sale at http://goodneighborvintage.etsy.com/

Vintage Cubic Zirconia Engagement Ring

When I found this lovely ring at one of my favorite haunts I was certain this was a diamond engagement ring. The band was well worn and had thinned as if someone had never taken this ring off for many, many years.

I took this ring to my jeweler and learned that in fact this was not a diamond ring, but a cubic zirconia ring. Cubic zirconia stones have been manufactured for a very long time. My jeweler said that this ring is very pretty and it is possible that whoever owned this ring didn't know that it was a fake. It was given in love and worn with love. After that nothing else matters.

Vintage Avon Jewelry

Avon Products, Inc distributed 3200 pieces of glittery, shiny pieces of jewelry from 1965 to 2006. Avon jewelry enter the picture with a stylish locket pin that had a very simple name, Solid Perfume Jewel Pin. This sweet smelling pin came with a round tub of solid perfume called a glace', which means a solid perfume. The idea was to put the tub in the pin and throughout the day run your finger across the perfume and apply it to the various pulse points. You could also use the pin as a locket for a special picture. We fell in love with Avon jewelry and we never looked back.

Avon made special items honoring top selling perfumes such as the Bird of Paradise ring, the Sonnet necklace. For their 100th anniversary in 1986 they created an entire collection of necklace, earrings, ring and bracelet with a gold jewelry case. Avon continues to make jewelry to this day.

The rings pictured are Pleated Ruffle from 1990 and is valued at $25.00, Shimmering Smoke from 1982 valued at $35.00. Hematite set in gold. You can find both of these beautiful Avon rings at http://goodneighborvintage.etsy.com/
at below the valued price and other Avon jewelry too.

Show Off Your Collections by Displaying Them

I started collecting things many years ago. First it was baskets, then pottery followed by colored glass bottles and anything that had roses on it, linens, towels, dishes, whatever. Every time I found one of these items that I couldn't resist at a flea market or thrift store I would buy it and add it to the collection.

I was thinking about how to redecorate my home without spending money. I started wandering around the house and seeing things that I could move from one room to another and ways that I could rearrange the furniture to give my home a fresh look. Then I remembered all the things that I have collected over the years that have been just placed here or there without thinking about it.

I gathered all the colored glass vases, jars and bottles into one grouping. To my surprise I had almost 20 gorgeous pieces of glass art. I did the same with my pottery collection and roses items. I made groupings of those items and placed them on tables. I used the end tables for my colored glass and when the light is lit the glass just sparkles and makes a really nice focal point. It reminds me of stained glass.

So take those collections out of hiding and display the things that you love. Make groupings of similar items to make them stand out. Use books to elevate some of your favorite pieces. Flea markets and thrift stores are fantastic places to look for the things you love. If you don't have a collection, there are many inexpensive wonderful things to collect. Just follow your heart.

What Do You Collect?

What do you collect? Is it jewelry like me or coins, or rare books? Maybe it's elephants or another animal you love. Could it be railroad memorabilia or art glass? Whatever it is that you collect tell me about it and tell me how you got started collecting. Come on...give it up. I really want to know!
